Could it be? An actual blog post? That's right ladies and gentlemen, I have finally stopped slacking (aka taking care of three infants) long enough to get a new post out. We hope you enjoy it!
This past Monday was the two month check up for the triplets and boy was it fun! Picture this...three naked babies who are an hour overdue for their afternoon meal and have just received three shots each. Fun times! Actually the kids did really well with their shots and of course Andrew and Nadia both acted much better than their big brother Ryan after getting stuck with three needles. The other big news of the day was that Ryan has entered the double digits in weight! In fact all three kids are growing really well and are really starting to look older. The updated weights for the trips from Monday's appointment were as follows:
Ryan - 10 lbs, 4 oz
Andrew - 7 lbs, 12 oz
Nadia - 7 lbs, 4 oz
We also had our first "crazy stranger" moment while at the appointment. While we were pushing the triple stroller back out to the car after the appointment a woman from the next row over in the parking lot yelled to us and asked if we had triplets (I guess the triple stroller gave it away?). Since two of the kids were an hour late on eating their 2pm meal we said yes and just kept walking. Well apparently that was not what this woman had in mind. She walked over to us and literally stood in front of the stroller so that I had to stop pushing it. She apologized for stopping us but "just had to see triplets". When I politely explained that we had very hungry babies that needed to be fed she stepped aside but then proceeded to follow us to the van while telling us some asinine story about someone she knew that had twins. I guess this is what we should be prepared for during the next couple of years....just fantastic!
In addition to the two month check up for everyone, Nadia also had a follow up appointment with the hearing specialists and the genetics department at CHKD (the Children's Hospital). For those that don't know, Nadia failed her hearing test in one ear at the hospital when she was discharged and then failed both ears at a follow up test a week or so later. Well as we have learned throughout this experience so far, each test is only as important as the next test so of course Nadia was scheduled for the "real" hearing test this past week. We are happy to report that Nadia passed with normal hearing in one ear and one step below normal hearing in the other ear. Great news of course! And then during her genetics appointment they were very impressed with her growth and development and the fact that she had been discharged from the hospital without any heart medication. So all in all it was a good news week for the triplets.
This past week was also a big change as I went back to work full time. I had been working about one day a week for the past several weeks but all good things must come to an end. Now if only I could find a way to stay home and still get paid we'd be all set. (Come on Publisher's Clearinghouse!) To help alleviate the burden on Julie my mom came down for the week and really helped us out. Thankfully we were able to make it through the first week and obviously things can only get easier from here right? (In fact during the past several weeks we have had quite a few visitors and numerous helpers who have done a lot to keep us from going crazy. In an effort to keep the blog posts from getting way to long, there will be another post in a couple days with pictures from all of our visitors.)
Another one of the biggest things that helped us get through my first week back without being totally exhausted is that the triplets have graduated to a four hour feeding schedule at night! That might not sound like much to you guys but it is crazy how much it helps to get up one less time each night. In fact we are getting as much sleep now as we used to get before the trips. Now of course we have to go to bed two hours earlier than we used to and we don't get more than three hours of sleep at a time but still, it hasn't been too bad. I do have to admit that previously when some of my friends with kids told us that they went to bed at 9pm I thought they were crazy. Now it is a miracle if we can keep our eyes open past 9:30. Wow we've gotten old. (On a side note - Julie and I went to a concert at the local college this past weekend and all that kept running through my mind was that the kids in college today were born in the 90's. The 90's!!)
Well thanks for bearing with me to this point (or stopping to read this last line after you skipped over the rest to get to the pictures). Now here is the technocolor gold that you all have been waiting for!
