A Snifle A Day Keeps the Surgeon Away!
So by now many of you have probably heard that Nadia's heart surgery which was scheduled for last Monday was cancelled. Of course we didn't find this out until several family members had already made the trek to VA, we had spent a restless night at the Ronald McDonald House in Norfolk, and we had arrived at the hospital at 5:15 am....yes, 5:15.
The problem actually began on Saturday when Ryan started to get congested, which led to Nadia getting congested on Sunday. We told the nurse about the congestion on Sunday night when they called to check on her but they gave us the ok to come to the hospital the next day. After going through the normal checkin routine we met with the two OR nurses who assist with the surgery. They both checked Nadia out and decided that they would let the anesthesiologist and surgeon check her before deciding if the surgery should be postponed due to the congestion. We really were shocked when the anesthesiologist came in and after checking Nadia out for about 10 seconds, told us that the surgery should be postponed. Obviously it was the best decision considering that we would never want to do anything to jeopardize our daughter's health but you can imagine that we (or at least I) was very upset. I think that if Nadia was our only child it would not have been quite so bad but after getting everything organized and scheduled to make sure that the boys were taken care of, it was hard to think about doing it all again (especially when there would be a good chance that Nadia would be congested the next time since she has congestion about 50% of the time). So start praying now for September 17th as that is the new (tentative) date for Nadia's surgery.
On the positive side, we got to spend some good time with Julie's folks as well as my mom, brother and sister-in law. We really appreciated all of the help and the kids had fun too. Since the last video that I posted was such a big hit here are a few more to make you smile (and/or glad you don't have triplets).
