It has been a busy few months at the Waskey household as the kids keep getting bigger and smarter seemingly everyday. In just the month since the last blog post, the boys' vocabulary has exploded. Ryan can now recite the entire alphabet, count to 20, count backwards from 10, and just in the past day he has learned how to spell his name with the magnetic letters on the fridge. Ryan actually loves the alphabet so much that we he wakes up in the morning we can hear him reciting it in his crib (seriously, who does that?). Meanwhile, Andrew can almost recite the whole alphabet, count to 10, and say a myriad of other words.
Both boys are also getting much better at repeating and imitating the things that we say. They are still fascinated with "light on/light off" but now they can actually pronounce the words so you can tell the difference between on/off. They are starting to say "please" (which sounds more like "paweese" for Ryan and "peace" for Andrew) and they can both do the sign for thank you. Multiple word sentences are also becoming more regular. The other morning when I told Ryan that I loved him, he responded "I wuv you Dadda" (talk about making a grown man cry....) One of my favorite things that they have started to say is "no touch", which is what I say to them at least 10 times a day because they are touching one of the few things in the house that we don't allow them to play with. When Andrew sees one of the prohibited items he now points at it and says "no touch"! It is hilarious.
Nadia is continuing to progress as well. She has not yet started to talk but her sign language knowledge is constantly expanding. She also knows and understands a lot of what we say even though she can't vocalize her responses yet. She is also our least demanding child and by far the best eater. We often speculate about how we would survive if we didn't have Nadia and instead had another Andrew or Ryan...we would certainly be even crazier than we are now! Nadia has also been hitting some new physical milestones as she can now navigate steps all by herself and even climb up the slide in our yard without help.
In October we participated in the Buddy Walk for the first time. The Buddy Walk is a fundraiser and awareness event for Down's Syndrome that we have wanted to do for a while. The kids had a great time climbing up and down the big hill at the park where the walk was held and they did pretty good on the walk even though the advertised "1 mile" walk turned out to be 3 miles. The boys also found the only puddles located within a five mile radius and proceeded to get extremely muddy and wet (thankfully right before we were going to leave). We thank everyone who supported us and made a donation to our team "Miss Fabulous".
Another new thing we decided to try this year was trick or treating for Halloween. The way I see it, we only have a couple years before the kids realize that the candy is actually for them so we have to take advantage while we can. The triplets only lasted about 45 minutes but we think they enjoyed it. The boys were dressed as dragons and Nadia was a tulip fairy (don't worry...there are pictures below). I was even able to teach Ryan to say trick or treat (pronounced twick or tweet) so he was our official spokesman at each house. It also helped me not feel like a complete fraud out getting candy for my 2 year old kids.
It was interesting to observe the kids as they interacted with other people dressed in costumes. At one house a guy had a scary mask on and was trying to scare trick or treaters, but when he came up to us Andrew just kind of stared back at him without a visible reaction. It is weird to think that right now the kids have no reference for what should be scary....they don't know about ghosts, Stephen King, the Blair Witch, etc... so the only thing they fear is not getting fed. One thing the kids do like about Halloween are the decorations. Our neighbor had some ghosts and witches hanging from the trees in their yard and they became a daily destination for the triplets. When we would leave to go back to our house, Ryan would say "Bye witch, bye ghost, bye pumpkin"....every...single...time.

From the moment they could walk our kids have been absolutely entranced by puddles. One of the boys' first words was puddle. That will help explain the following video. (Also notice that instead of stopping them, Julie starts recording...I was obviously not around.)

The following video was our attempt to get some of Ryan's new vocabulary on record. However Andrew was apparently starved for attention for the whole 2 minutes that we were recording as you will hear in the background. And yes, the way we calm our kids down for bed is to rough house with them on our bed for 10 minutes. It works so don't judge :)
