So I got my first really dumb triplet related question today. First you need to know that parents are given a wristband to wear for each baby that they have in the hosptial. Second you need to know that when you go into the special care nursery for the first time each day you have to wash your hands and arms for 3 minutes at these two big sinks by the entrance. While washing my hands this morning a gentleman next to me who was also washing his hands looked over and asked "Why you got three wristbands?" I looked at him and said "why do you think?" and he replied "Twins?" It was all I could do not to laugh out loud. Instead of responding with a smarty pants answer I simply asked him what three babies are called and he finally got it. I guess this is just a foreshadowing of things to come.
As for the babies they are all doing great. They started their feedings today and Nadia and Ryan actually took bottles. Granted it is only a small amount that they are being fed and although they still may need to be fed through tubes at some point, it was a big accomplishment for them to take anything through a bottle. The funny thing is that they are most worried about Nadia having trouble eating because of her heart condition but the nurse had to slow her down on the bottle because she was drinking it so fast.
Julie continues to make progress and was able to get up and walk on several occasions today. She also had a chance to go to the nursery and hold Nadia and Ryan for a little while. All in all it was a pretty good day for the Waskey Five. It is still incredible to think that the triplets were born less than two days ago, since with so much happening so fast it feels like it was a week ago that they were delivered.
